Help us reach out to immigrants around Nothern Virginia! Hogar Immigrant Services Education Office serves clients with intensive English and Citizenship classes. Volunteer office assistants will help us place calls to clients, organize files, and test students. Arts & Crafts Instructor

We are looking for people who are interested in leading Crafts instructors at the center. St. Martin de Porres seniors are very creative but they would like someone to lead the activities. Our folks love everything from paper crafts, sewing projects, ceramics, and more! Must have a friendly personality, a love for seniors, and isn't afraid to use a glue gun!

Exercise Instructor

Overview //

We are looking for exercise instructors or physical therapists to teach seniors exercises! St. Martin de Porres Senior Center provides daily exercises to high functioning and independent seniors who love to stay active. The seniors enjoy chair exercises, Zumba, jazzercise, Arthritis Exercise, and line dancing just to name a few. Proof of certification or license needed for the opportunity.

Senior Center Kitchen Helper (Breakfast and Lunch)

Overview //

We are looking for people interested in helping serve food! St. Martin de Porres Senior Center provides continental breakfast and a nutritious hot lunch to seniors. The senior center serves hot drinks, bread, cereal (both hot and cold) and pastries in the morning. During lunch, we prepare trays, serve meals to the senior, and clean the kitchen after lunch. Volunteers, who are interested in serving food to the seniors, please email us to specify if you are available to help with breakfast, lunch, or both! Once you sign up, volunteers must complete food service training, provided by the center, before serving in the kitchen.

Volunteer Nurse or Nursing Student for Blood Pressure Checks and Presentations

Overview //

We are looking for nurses who are interested in providing blood pressure checks and educational presentations on health topics, infectious diseases, and updates. While administrating blood pressure checks, seniors may ask questions about medical problems or conditions. This opportunity is available for nursing students/graduates 21 years or older. Upon registration, we will schedule an interview and privacy training.



o Requirements: comfortable spending time with seniors, independent, self-reliant, adaptable, patient, and can elevate senior problems to staff. If you speak Spanish, Farsi, or Amharic, that would be a great advantage, registered nurse, nursing student (proof required) or a medical license, official documents/proof of nursing school attendance required.

o This opportunity is for nursing students and nurses 21 years or older, RN, or anyone in the medical field with a current license. Monday through Friday between 10:30-12:00 or 12:30-1:30pm

Prison Ministry Volunteer

Catholic Charities supports the Parishes with ministries serving the incarcerated in the local jails and prisons. These groups conduct bible study, faith sharing, and catechesis. We are looking for people who are interested in leading activities at the center. St. Martin de Porres Senior Center provides activities to high functioning and independent seniors who love to play games and do activities throughout the day. The seniors love playing board games, card games, Wii bowling, team games, Bingo, one-on-one games as examples, and are always ready to learn new activities. Games are available at the center, but if you want to bring in a new game that is good too. A binder is available with how to guides on how to play games that are available in the center. Staff is also available to do refreshers on how to play games/teach how to play the game.

Help your immigrant and refugee neighbors earn their CompTIA certification! Instructors needed for virtual classes. The ideal candidate will have CompTIA certification or an IT background and be willing to attain the certification. Need to feel confident teaching small group of students.

Education Workforce Development - Internship

Overview //

The Adult Education Intern will get hands-on experience in program management by working with students and staff to aid and resources to individuals in the Northern Virginia area. These services include assisting with connecting students to resources and completing student check-ins and follow ups.

INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:

· Curriculum development and lesson planning; teaching methods and classroom management

· Summative and formative assessments

· Drafting communications, program improvement, and evaluation

· Improve upon written and communication skills

· Program and project management, creating leadership and client development recommendations

· Work in a team environment with staff and volunteers

· Through one-on-one client interaction, learn about challenges and opportunities experienced by clients enrolled in the program

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Monitor and maintain records on clients/students'' progress

· Assist in contacting clients via emails and phone calls

· Manage client and student information and data

· Assist clients in learning how to use classroom platforms like Zoom

· Assist with student registrations and data collection

· Assist with coordination of student conversation groups

· Gather and organize materials and resources related to content area

· Promote our program in the community; participate in special projects as assigned

· Personal teaching portfolio with standards-aligned unit plans, lesson plans, and classroom materials

· Compile unit plans, lesson plans, and classroom materials as a resource for volunteer teachers

· Assist with program coordination of online learning program

· Assess areas in which students may require assistance

QUALIFICATIONS:

Human Development/Services, Human Services, Nonprofit Studies, or other related major
Working knowledge of at least one critical foreign language preferred (Spanish, Dari, Farsi)
Knowledgeable in use of Zoom and Microsoft Office
Must be motivated, organized, and possess professional communication skills
Commitment to the mission and goals of Education and Workforce Development program and CCDA
Genuine interest in providing services to the community; open to other cultures and beliefs
Flexible and adaptable regarding change in routines and duties

New Volunteers - Manassas

Overview //

The Mother of Mercy Clinic provides free, quality healthcare to low-income individuals who are uninsured or under-insured. The clinics have ongoing needs for volunteers in a variety of roles:

- Medical (physicians, specialists, nurses, pharmacists etc.)
- Administrative (general office duties, volunteer coordination, front desk, etc.)
- Interpreting (virtual and in-person)
- Facility Maintenance

All NEW volunteers must register here by clicking the sign-up link and setting up an account in Samaritan. A member of the onboarding team will contact you within a week and coordinate a time for a brief interview and go over the steps of the onboarding process (Zoom orientation, paperwork, and a background check).
