Calling all musicians, loving audience ready to hear you play at St. Martin de Porres Senior Center! Our seniors love music and can't wait to hear you play. We welcome piano players, acoustic guitarists, DJs spinning classic tunes, singers, violinist, and sometimes the occasional accordion. Basically anything that makes a pleasant sound! Volunteer for the Day
Help with community building and preventing isolation at our Senior Center. Volunteer at St. Martin de Porres in Alexandria on a weekday. Help with a variety of social activities and make new friends with our wonderful seniors. Opportunity to make a difference in the life of a senior.
Computer Teachers - Manassas and Alexandria
Help your neighbors earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate and CEUs from NOVA community college! This basic computer class is for intermediate and advanced English Language Learners who want to gain basic computer skills. The curriculum includes an introduction to the computer and computer parts, typing, Gmail and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). The ideal teacher will have some paid or voluntary teaching experience and demonstrate computer literacy. Classes will be held in our computer lab on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9AM - 12PM or 6:30PM-9:30PM. Teachers must commit to teach one class per week. Transitional Assistance Program (TAP) Volunteer
Help those leaving the Loudoun Adult Detention Center (ADC) with immediate needs upon release -- housing, food, transportation, identification, etc. Coordinate with volunteers in jail for housing and mentorship opportunities for those soon-to-be-released. Offer prayerful support for our returning citizens!

Welcome Home Re-Entry Mentor
Serve as a role model and guide for a formerly incarcerated/recently released who is in the Diocese of Arlington in order to help the ex-offender successfully return to society, avoid behavior which will result in repeat incarceration, and provide spiritual support and connect them with a faith community.TRAINING: Initial pre-service training provided by CCDA required. Additional in-service training is provided on an ongoing basis.-Background Check, Privacy Training, Mentoring Training provided.TIME COMMITMENT: 1. Attend volunteer pre-service training (7.5 hours) and ongoing in-service trainings.2. At least four hours a month for six months for volunteer assignment.3. Fifteen minutes per month to submit a progress report.

GED Instructors - Virtual
Help your immigrant and refugee neighbors earn their GEDs! Math and English GED instructors are needed in Manassas. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9AM-12PM or from 6:30PM-9:30PM. The ideal candidate will have some background in teaching (volunteer or paid) and commit to one class per week for the whole semester. You will receive ample curriculum, resources, training, professional development, and additional support from Hogar staff throughout the semester. Do you know someone who would want to teach as well? Program Coordinator for the Welcome Home Re-entry Program
Work with staff and other volunteers to support those leaving jail. We provide our returning citizens with housing and mentoring in an effort to prevent them going back to jail and to successfully re-intergate into the community. This is an emerging program. We need help working with the jails to place and accept new clients and match with interns; to coordinate communication and training with the mentors and to conduct awareness events so the community can learn about the challenges of being incarcerated and then getting back on their feet. Serve those who without us, would have no one.
Adult Education Internship
The Adult Education Intern will provide support for the Workforce Development program. The main facets of the program are GED preparation courses, child care courses, computer courses, and career counseling. The Adult Education Intern will teach a workforce development course and get hands-on experience in adult education, curriculum development and assessment. Citizenship Tutor - Virtual
Would you like to work one-on-one with a student who is getting close to their date for citizenship and needs a little refresher? Tutoring can be done during the day or on weekends. Substitute ESOL Teacher - Virtual
Give your neighbors the gift of English without the weekly time commitment! Come and attend our training and be ready to fill in when an ESOL teacher is unavailable. Locations and times vary. Once you are trained, we will add you to the email list and you can choose to take teaching opportunities or pass them up.
Spanish Teacher - Virtual
Volunteer Spanish teachers needed! Education and Workforce Development is now offering virtual Spanish language classes to the Northern Virginia community. Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The semester begins on June 30, and will be ten weeks long. Volunteer teachers will only be asked to commit to teach one night per week - lesson plans and curriculum will be provided!

Coffee and Conversation - Virtual
Don't want to commit to be a class teacher? Join us for Coffee and Conversation!We are looking for volunteers to teach Conversation Groups- the work would be to supplement our students' learning English as a second language by assisting them in conversation based on their class assignments or anything they might want to practice. Each conversation group meeting lasts an hour and a half, once a week. This opportunity will be completely virtual.
